SERVICES OFFERED: New Mexico State Library supports New Mexico’s public libraries, state employees and individuals seeking research and information about the history, culture and government of New Mexico. Specialized collections are developed and maintained in the following areas: State and federal government documents, library science, Southwest history and culture, and foundation and grant research. The library also provides statewide and in-house access to a number of online databases.

Services for the General Public: Residents of New Mexico who come into the State Library can sign up for library cards (identification and proof of address will be required) to borrow circulating materials. Alternatively, individuals can ask their local libraries to borrow materials from the State Library through interlibrary loan, and then pick up the books at the local library. Reference services are available in person, by databases to everyone in New Mexico.  These El Portal databases (http://www.elportalnm.org/) include magazine articles, online reference books, New Mexico newspapers, and many specialized resources such as Chilton car care. There is something for every age group, from elementary school children to adults.

Services for Government Employees: Government employees can borrow materials directly from the State Library or from other libraries, using interlibrary loan.  They can request help with reference questions.

Services for New Mexico Libraries: New Mexico Libraries can borrow materials from the State Library through interlibrary loan.  In addition, the State library provides training, resources, references services, and consulting support for NM public and tribal libraries, and coordinates the annual statewide Summer Reading Program for all ages.

COMMUNITIES SERVED: All of New Mexico.
