Orton’s work in the study, prevention, and treatment of the specific language disability known as dyslexia.  The Association and its branches address the diverse issues related to individuals with reading and writing disabilities.  In addition, they are engaged in a comprehensive effort to uncover the cause of dyslexia and its treatment.

SERVICES OFFERED: SWIDA maintains a tutor/diagnostic referral service, a video tape library, a twenty-four hour telephone hotline, an annual conference with nationally and locally known experts in the field, a quarterly newsletter, and multi sensory workshops in various Orton-Gillingham phonetic based instructional programs such as Alphabetic Phonics, Project Read, Spalding, Recipe for Reading, etc.  The Branch awards an annual scholarship to a qualified post secondary dyslexic student, and scholarships are available for the annual conference as well as for the teacher training programs.
